Book Review: Losing It by Cora Carmack

Virginity.

My Thoughts:
I first saw this book on iTunes  I had never heard of it, but it was #1 on the list of iBooks. So I decided to go ahead and get it. And for $3.99? I'd say it was definitely worth it.

I really loved the synopsis. I could tell immediately that I was going to like this book. And when I started reading it, I thought I had it all planned out, like I knew what was going to happen. But it changed, which I liked.

I'd say this book is a romance. Not erotica in anyway for those who are wondering. It's all about Bliss and Garrick and what is going on. Because nobody really knows, not even them. And it's just an all around good story.

As far as characters go, I liked them all. Bliss was very likable  She was a regular college student with dreams and ambitions. Even though she was a virgin, it was believable. Her character just seemed like a virgin. So inexperienced and everything. I also liked Kelsey & Cade, her best friends, their friendship was easy. And since they were all studying acting it made their bond even closer.

Let's talk about the love interest: Garrick! Oh. Oh my. Him and all his hotness and his British accent. The way that he is described just makes me want him. And then the fact that he turned out to be her teacher, wow. Lifetime fantasy right there! Bliss is too lucky to have lived it! I liked how there was an epilogue from Garrick's point of view. And we got to see what happened after her graduation and with them.

Overall I gave it 3 stars, I think it would be more like a 3.5. The only reason it didn't get 4 is because the book wasn't really about anything else besides what was going on with Bliss and Garrick. It had stuff to do with her friends, but nothing else was mentioned. And I felt like I would have gotten a better picture of her life if other things had been put in there.

My Thoughts:
This book was good, I didn't love it unfortunately. The sex scenes were hot, but nothing compared to Selena Kitt or Sylvia Day. They were on the shorter side and just weren't really that descriptive. And it was straight and to the point. Not much foreplay which obviously sets the mood for the whole scene. I would definitely read another book by Sara Fawkes simply because she thought outside the box and it really did make a difference in my overall opinion.

About 50% into the book I really wanted to give up on this book. Not because it's bad because it's not but because every other 'bdsm' book is going the same now days. Some bottom of the line worker is seen by the million or billionaire or even bajillionaire and he instead has to hire her for some outrageous, essentially stupid position and have sex with her. So she's technically a fancy hooker. and then he likes her. But he can't love her for some random reason. And then some threat is involved and he has to keep her safe. And then its all over and he still can't love her. Sorry about the rant, but you know its true. So I was really thinking this book was going to follow that path....

It did somewhat, but it was very different at the same time. There was a whole lot more threat in the whole somebody's trying to kill us part. And way more deep and detailed. There was so much drama I almost couldn't keep up. The ending is what really made me give it a 4 star rating. I was incredibly relieved that it didn't end like fifty shades. With the whole marriage and happy ending bullshit. The ending to this book was really amazing. I can't picture it ending any other way.

And I just want to say sorry its been taking me forever to read one book and I've been posting mostly movie reviews, but since its the holidays and I work in retail, I've been working like crazy. And its so much faster to watch a movie and it helps me wind down. But have no fear, it'll be over soon.

My Thoughts:

This is a must see for Meryl Streep fans. I really love her, I think she is one of the most amazing actresses ever. This movie was however pretty sad because their marriage is getting boring and she desperately wanted to spice it up and help it out a little, but he is so old fashioned. He didn't want to go to therapy, he didn't want some random guy telling him what to do in his marriage. But it really worked out for the best.

It had it's serious moments and lots of funny moments. I think everyone should watch this movie. 

Reasons To Watch It:

- It has Meryl Streep.

- Who doesn't love old people in love?!

- Tommy Lee Jones still has it.

- It's a feel good film.

Book Review: Under Mr. Nolan's Bed by Selena Kitt (18+)

My Thoughts:
Before starting this book I did not read the synopsis. I didn't have to. All I needed to know was that Selena Kitt wrote it, and at this point I will read and love pretty much anything that she writes. So, just by the title of this book, I assumed that it was a teacher/student thing. You know?... With the whole 'Mr.' part, but it was totally something different. When I looked up this book on Goodreads, I saw that there was an original version and a revised version. I believe I read the original version. I couldn't find anywhere to purchase the original version. All the sites now have the revised one. And on Excessica it even has a new title called Plaid Skirt Confessions.

What a wild, wild ride this one was! I couldn't get enough of this author, so right after finishing Heidi and the Kaiser I had to read something else by her. I first heard about this book when my sister told me she had heard really great things about it and wanted to read it. Man, those rumors are so true. Every part of the whole Catholic school girl fantasy is played out in this one. And adding in the best friend's dad. AMAZING!

There's not really a whole lot to say about this book without spoiling it and giving something away. So I'll just point out a few things:
-The sex scenes are HOT!
-The descriptions are very in depth.
-Underneath all the sex, the characters do have good personalities.
-There was a little shocker at the end that I really didn't see coming.

This book does have a little bit of a certain taboo subject, but honestly, nobody but Selena Kitt could write and make it sound so amazing and so hot!

Book Review: Switch by Megan Hart

Don't think. 

Don't question. 

Just do. 

The anonymous note wasn't for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in the habit of reading other people's mail, but it was just a piece of paper with a few lines scrawled on it, clearly meant for the apartment upstairs. It looked so innocent, but decidedly-- deliciously-- it was not.

Before replacing the note--and the ones that followed --in its rightful slot, I devoured its contents: suggestions, instructions, summonses, commands. Each was more daring, more intricate and more arousing than the last... and I followed them all to the letter.

Before the notes, if a man had told me what to do, I'd have told him where to go. But submission is an art, and there's something oddly freeing about doing someone's bidding...especially when it feels so very, very good.

But I find that the more I surrender, the more powerful I feel--so it's time to switch up roles.

We play by my rules now.

My Thoughts:

Okay... I'm just gonna come right out and say it... This book was crap and a major let down... So let's get into the why. First off, this is the first book I've read by Megan Hart. I had others planned to read first, like: Dirty & Tempted. But I was walking through Wal-Mart and happened to see this on one of the end caps. And I thought she's a best selling author, and the synopsis sounds good, I'll take a chance and get it. Man! I was so wrong! Big mistake on my part...

The first part of this review will be spoiler free and then I will begin my rant and I'll talk about the entire book, even the part that I couldn't bare to read, but looked it up because I had to know what happened. 

So, in the synopsis it says "Don't think. Don't question. Just do." It should say "Don't think. Don't question. Just keep on walking." Pass this book up! When I read the synopsis I assumed she would find these letters and start some sort of relationship with the person sending them. And by the last part, "we play by my rules now," I figured she would be the more dominant person in said relationship. This book has absolutely nothing to do with domination or submission. Or anything that the synopsis might hint into to.

This book is about a woman who is obsessed with stationary and starts finding these notes in her mailbox, so she starts following the instructions and replaces the notes in the correct box. The stupid thing is... How is it fun if the other end doesn't know you're even playing, let alone complying? So in the book, you pretty much just go along with her daily life, it's nothing special except she's a slut. At least we have something to read about.

Now I'll go on with my rant... The beginning of this book she's going partying with her friend. And pretty much looking for someone to have to sex with. She ends up seeing her ex husband. And has sex with him. And there's a lot of flash backs. They're fairly boring. The sex scenes are okay, not horrible, but not great. She does use some weird terminology, maybe I'm just sheltered, but I have never heard anyone ever refer to a penis as a prick. I do know that it's used to call someone a dick. But never heard it actually used as a name for a penis.

So finally she meets the guy that is receiving the letters and she has a little date with him. I think that part of the book was actually interesting because I was thinking it could really take off, it could really turn out to be a great book. But then it didn't. So she has sex with pretty much everyone, including her boss. And then ends up getting back with her ex husband. That's pretty much the end.

Book Review: Heidi & the Kaiser by Selena Kitt

My Thoughts:
So I was in a major reading slump before starting this book. I started reading Switch by Megan Hart, and by the synopsis it seemed really great, but it's not. I started looking for something that I knew would interest me. My sister actually introduced me to Selena Kitt, I had never heard of her up until a few months ago. I read one of her short stories called Hannah’s Choice, which I downloaded for free on iBooks and it's also free on Goodreads, and that wasn't very good. The description of the sex was good, but the storyline was just plain weird. So I decided to give her another chance.

With me being in that reading slump and everything, I wanted to find a book that was on the shorter side because who comes out of a slump reading a 400 page book? Not this girl. I had a little craving for some more erotica since finishing Reflected in You and decided to go through my Selena Kitt TBR list and this one sounded perfect.

I think I knew from the first few pages that I was going to LOVE this book... it just had that vibe that I was unknowingly looking for. Since the whole bdsm erotica fad has come into play... I’ve been looking for some real bdsm quality stuff. Although this is on the lighter side, the intensity of being told what to do is all there. And the sex in this book was very, very hot!

When she fell and tripped over his legs and messed up his pants I was thinking: "oh shit, here we go with another Christian Grey thing!" But no, hell no, this is way, way, way (a million times way) better. This short story is intense, ravishing, beautiful, and so sexy. Although Kaiser is described as a man with salt and pepper hair, that old man can rock my socks anyday!

I really liked Heidi, she was a really great submissive character, they don't really make em like that anymore! And Kaiser, oh my, he never backs down. And let’s face it: every female loves a strong male character. One person I didn't really care for was Heidi's friend Lenny, he was just a bit annoying and I felt like he needed to just go away, but in the end it all worked out very well. And I hated Andrea, what a hateful bitch she was; I just wanted to slap her so bad. And I’m not sure if Selena Kitt was trying to use the real Roberto Cavalli and just ended up misspelling his name, but I kept thinking that every time his name would appear, in this book it's spelled -Roberto Cavelli.

One more last thing is: I’m going to talk crap about the cover. Yes, it was published by a not so big company. But really?? The cover is almost horrible. I love the position the models are in, because it's obviously in the book a lot. But like I said before, Kaiser is described as having salt and pepper hair, so obviously he is older. And the model is what? Like 30? And I think I remember Heidi being described as a blonde, and when she gets her hair done she says she got more blonde highlights, but the girl on the cover has a dark blonde, but more on the light brown side, color of hair... I just wish they would have thought more about it. Also, I do believe this is the second cover, the first one is also inaccurate... if you read the book and then look up the cover, you'll see why.

Overall I gave it 5 stars, I couldn't really find anything wrong with it. It was perfect and exactly what I needed to get out of that reading slump. And it's a very quick read at only 152 pages, but let me tell you, a whole lot happens in those pages. If you're into the whole dom/sub thing, I’m sure you will love this one. Definitely give it a try.

I love Zane so much! The first book I read by her was The Sex Chronicles. Which is a book full of short erotica stories. The way she  writes her erotica is a match  made in heaven for me.

Crossing the Fire

The Crossfire series by Sylvia Day consists of two books so far: Bared to You and Reflected in You. In my opinion they are both great books, and when compared to the literary train wreck that is Fifty Shades, the Crossfire Series is the quintessential demonstration of this genre.

Bared to you: My sister already did a wonderful review on this piece, and you can view that here, but I just wanted to share my thoughts on it as well. And I wanted to do a little compare and contrast with the characters of Fifty Shades. The main character of Bared to You is Eva Tramell. She, unlike miss Anastasia Steele has her shit together. She moved from California to New York City, the place where every young upstart dreams of making it big. And with tenacity and dedication she found herself a productive place in NYC. She was not inexperienced and scared of life like Steele and for that reason, she makes a much better role model for women. She is fearless. 

It has always been a dream of mine to move somewhere foreign and brave the world with my best friend. Eva gets to experience this change with her long time bestie Cary Taylor. Who is amazing and gorgeous and just as emotionally odd as she. I think in life as well as in fiction you need a good sidekick, Cary made the most perfect one. He was her foil but also an iron clad keeper of not only her heart but her sanity. He would be a welcome addition to my life. I think every girl wants a really close guy friend that has their best interests at heart but doesn't want to be repaid sexually for it. It works. 

Now for the star of the show Mr. Gideon Cross. A very wealthy and deliciously attractive businessman. He is the love interest of Eva and I've really never read any two characters that deserved each other more. They both have terribly spotted pasts but their spots are similar enough to blend into a perfect pattern of sequined bliss. His name means destroyer, but all he does is repair Eva in the best way he can. They have their issues like any couple however. He is a sex addicted control freak. But Eva is cut in such a way that his brand of crazy fits right into her mold. Upon reading this book it is extremely easy to get lost in the characters and their lives. I went to sleep dreaming of sparking my own fictional relationship with Mr. Cross. When compared to Mr. Grey from Fifty Shades, Cross is much less crazy. He doesn't want to hurt Eva like Grey wants to do to Ana. And I think that Cross is a much more in depth character. He's just better on paper than Grey could ever be.

Reflected in You: This is the second book in this soon to be trilogy. It picks right up where book one leaves off. It exhibits more of the same reckless sexual behavior that the two seem to be drawn to. It also chronicles more of their rocky misunderstandings and relationship woes.

In this second book it offers an even deeper analysis into these characters that the first book has forced you to care about. And it is much more focused on the reasoning and useful nature of Gideon's controlling nature. The book has an acceptable ending, and frankly I really cannot wait until the next one is out to see what kind of trouble they get into.

I found that with Fifty Shades that the writing was atrocious and simple and I could not focus enough on the characters and plot to care. I think there should be a book where Eva meets Grey and see how that turns out. Of course Day would have to write it because she is obviously a better writer than the author of Fifty Shades, in this reviewers humble opinion anyway.

Movie Review: Ken Park (18+ Review)

Plot Summary:
An intense scrutiny of the lives of four teenagers, all childhood friends & their parents. Their unmasked lives are full of violence, sex, hatred & drugs.

My Thoughts:

There are not many non-pornographic films that show the amount of explicit real sex that the film Ken Park does. The films director Larry Clark, director of the film Kids (1995), and Bully (2001) has a knack for capturing the essence of teenage angst and culture. 

The film delves into the lives of several teenagers and their destructive home lives. It explores the unsettling themes of teen sex, drug abuse, alcoholism, incest, child abuse, and suicide. In the world of Ken Park, nothing is what it seems and there is little tangible reality besides sex. 

This film is very explicit. If viewing sex acts bothers you than you probably shouldn't watch the film because it can and does get easily pegged as a piece of pornography. However, Ken Park is not a pornographic film. It is not meant to be viewed for sexual purposes but rather the sex in the film is used to underscore the complete tragedy of these teens lives. 

The film is a piece of art. And it offers a real and gritty look into the psyche of the American teenager. It crosses gender and racial lines to show that life is not only fucked up for boys or girls, or for white or colored people, but life is hell for everyone. That theme I think offers a uniting thread for not only the characters in the film but the viewers of the film as well. 

So, I give this movie five stars for the subject matter and the audacity and bravery it took to show it without any censorship.

My Thoughts:

First of all in the very beginning, I love her description of Manhattan. It made me feel like I was there. And it had me wishing I could get a really fancy job and move to new York. And live the "good" life.

After reading fifty shades of dumb shit, I decided I wanted to find a book that would do it right, because lets face it, Fifty Shades was totally lame. It was okay for all you extreme romantics, but not for me. I'd been seeing Bared to You online, everyone was saying it was similar, but better. And it was everywhere I went. So I finally picked it up at Costco. And I'm very glad I did.

It wasn't Fifty Shades (thank god). Some of the same things. Like the rich, hot men. And the whole you're obviously fucked up in the head, therefore you can't have a normal functioning relationship so you screw every woman on earth, until you see me.. An then we have some fabulous connection, but I don't want you, but you're hot, so I'll talk to you kind of thing...

But I loved this book. It wasn't stupid or cheesy. Or COMPLETELY unrealistic like Fifty Shades. It was unrealistic in some parts, but only a few. I was so happy there were no Inner goddess talk. Or a dumb college student with no idea about how adult relationships work. I don't mean to offend anyone that liked Fifty Shades of Grey either. Just my personal opinion.

The writing was spectacular. The details during the sexy times were awesome. Like seriously, this book was some of the best erotica I've ever read. It was so hot, I almost made some bad decisions while reading this book! I'll save you the story, but it could've been bad. One thing I was quite upset about was that were no bdsm elements like I had expected. People kept saying there were some in this book, but no, there's not. It was still a great book though. 

I loved how strong of a character Eva was, even though she's kind of submissive to Gideon. She has her life together, she just got this new job and moved to New York from California. She has her best friend/bi sexual roommate to keep her company and make sure she doesn't make really stupid choices. And she has her own money, about 5 million dollars, and that is a whole story in its own. But I'll let you read the book to figure that one out. I thought she was a pretty good person considering her traumatic past.

I liked Gideon Cross also. He was smart, handsome, rich, strong minded, persistent, and very honest and forward at times.. But there was something really weird going on with him and his family. So there's a little bit of mystery there, which was nice. Some of the characters I couldn't stand were her mother and step father. Her mother got on my last nerve. I just wanted to put tape over her mouth and lock her in the closet or something. She just wanted to control Eva so bad. But it's not over powering in the story. I think it's actually essential. Overall I thought it was amazing. I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads. And I can't wait for the second book in the series: Reflected in You, which will be released Oct. 23, 2012.

The car slowed to a halt. He
withdrew the key from the panel
and the doors opened.

I backed into the corner and
shooed him out with a flick of
my wrist. "I'm really not interested."

"We'll discuss." Cross caught me
by the elbow and gently, but insistently,
urged me out.

I went along because I liked
the charge I got from being around
him and because I was curious to
see what he had to say when
afforded more than five minutes
of my time.

He was buzzed through the security
door so quickly there was no need
for him to break stride. The pretty
redhead at the reception desk pushed
hastily to her feet, about to impart
some information until he shook his
head impatiently. Her mouth snapped
shut and she stared at me as we
passed at a brisk pace, her eyes wide.

Plot Summary:
The People I've Slept With - a promiscuous woman who finds herself with an unplanned pregnancy and needs to figure out who the baby daddy is...NOW. Angela Yang loves sex. She loves it so much she needs to make baseball cards of her lovers to help her remember where she's been. She doesn't think twice about her lifestyle until she finds out that she's pregnant. Her gay best friend, Gabriel Lugo tells her to "take care of it," but her conservative sister, Juliet persuades Angela to get married to the baby's father and lead a "normal" life like her. Angela listens to her sister, chooses to keep the baby, and goes on a quest to find the identity of the father by any means necessary.

Favorite Parts:
-The becoming a virgin part.
-Unfortunately that's my only favorite part...

My Thoughts:

-There were a lot of funny parts.

-This movie was a little weird, but I enjoyed it. 

-The search for her baby daddy was really weird.

-And her gay friend. He is hilarious. And gorgeous.
